Amandus the Venerable

Patron of Account-Keepers, Civic Arbiters, Temple Clerks, and Guildmasters

Amandus was born in a bustling riverside city of canals and contracts, during the collapse of the First Trade Concord. Trained as a guildscribe in the House of Mercantile Law, Amandus rose to prominence not for his wealth, but for his unshakeable fairness and incorruptible ledger. When merchant-lords bribed judges and manipulated markets, it was Amandus who stood as arbiter, refusing both coin and pressure. During a widespread debt crisis triggered by plague and siege, Amandus famously locked himself in the Grand Exchange for fourteen days and nights, reviewing every contract line by line. On the fifteenth morning, he emerged with a massive scroll: The Rescission of Terms, a fair and orderly framework for debt forgiveness, payment restructuring, and inter-guild cooperation. That act saved the city from revolt—and earned Amandus the epithet “Venerable”, meaning not only revered but immovable in principle.

The Ledger of Golden Weights , the holiest text of the Church of Minos, is attributed to Amandus. Its fourteen chapters outline the Divine Directives, the Mortal Deficits, parables of trade and balance, and the liturgical calendar. In temples, his image is that of a tall, elderly man in simple robes, holding a weighted ledger in one hand and a sealed scroll in the other.
