Background
Advisor to Aemara while she was Queen of Kamartha, Anesthos was a scholar who provided mystical translations between his queen and her lover, the mercenary adventurer Zarakos of Taranio. When Zarakos departed Kamartha to continue his journies, Anesthos joined him and was present when Zarakos founded the settlement of Neptag (later Neptaris) on the wild Durian coast. Anesthos worked as the primary mystical advisor of the settlement during its foundation, assisting in negotiations with a local tribe of elves known as the Arisian elves and founding the House of the Quill, the oldest university on the continent of Duria.
When Zarakos died in 33 NC, the settlers turned to Anesthos to decide on a successor. He asked each contender a series of questions designed to determine their wisdom and intelligence, finally settling on one of Zarakos' lieutenants, Ikthios of Zoandar. Legend says that when Anesthos was on his deathbed, he admitted that he had falsified the results of this test... the questions had no real answers.
Before his death of extreme old age in 45 NC, Anesthos penned the Zarakeon, an epic poem describing the travels and tribulations of Zarakos of Taranio. Most modern scholars consider the Zarakeon to be a believable account of the foundation of Neptaris, if only because of the caustic nature in which its protagonist is described.
